Dyadic Relationship Research Survey

Purpose of Study

This research study is exploring the effects of watching pornography within a relationship. There has been considerable research about the effects of porn on an individual, but almost none for couples, so this is an attempt to better understand the role it can play in a relationship. It consists of a questionnaire where you will fill in information about your sexual relationship and sexual experiences. It is open to anyone in a relationship (longer than 6 months) where either member has watched any pornography in the last month.

We need each partner to fill out their own survey using the links below!

The survey should take about 20 to 25 minutes to complete. All information collected will be anonymous and is used only for academic research purposes. If you wish to withdraw from the study, you can do so at any moment without any negative consequences and without having to give any reason. The survey phase of this study is ongoing through 2024.

Privacy/How will this data be used?

For this study personal data about you will be used and stored by Maastricht University. This concerns the following data:

information in the informed consent statement
demographic information (age, gender, educational level/profession, relational status, relational status, number of children)

To protect your privacy, your personal data will be will be (temporarily) stored confidentially with access only for the researchers (not for publication), after which it will be anonymized so it cannot be traced back to you personally in any way.

You can withdraw your consent to the use of your personal data at any time. In that case, personal data and research data will be deleted if possible. See for more information about your rights in Maastricht University’s General Privacy Statement here.

How do I know I will be anonymous?

All data will be coded and treated anonymously, so no names will be stored, neither will we be able to identify personal data. We'll ask some basic demographic information like age, gender, employment status, and country you're in but that's all. No personally identifiable information is collected.

The codes below are randomly generated. You're welcome to reload the page a few times to get a different set of random codes if you want. Just be sure to use the pair together so we can collect both your results and your partner's.

Who can participate?

There will be questions about porn usage and your sex-life, so you should be an adult legally allowed to watch porn in your locale. If either you or your partner, or both, have watched porn in the last month, you qualify for this study. We need both you and your partner to fill out the survey using your respective links.

Will I have to watch porn for this?

No, we're just investigating people's current porn watching habits and how they may impact partners, so we need either you or your partner (or both) to have watched any porn in the last month, but you won't need to watch anything specific to this study.

Do I have to have my partner fill it out?

Yes. This study is all about looking at relationship dynamics when either partner uses porn, so we need to have both partners in a relationship fill out their respective questionnaires. We have no ability to use data from only one partner, Sorry! If you have more than one partner, work with the partner you are most sexually active with, or watch the most porn with.

Who is conducting this study?

This study is being conducted by Dr. Marieke Dewitte, assistant professor at the Faculty of Psychology and Neurosciences at Maastricht University, and Brian Bloom, psychology graduate from Erasmus University Rotterdam. Any questions can addressed to feedback@dyadicstudy.info
